Plastic dip for pistol storage
I need to organize my handguns (both of hem). Im thinking of mounting pegboard, then coating some 1/4" pegboard hooks with that plastic coating from lowes / HD that normally gets tools handles dipped in it.
I was advised against using a dowel as wood can retain moisture.
Anyone see a problem with using rubber coated pegboard hooks down the barrels?

They are about 2 inches long, PLASTIC- and strong. They are for heavy pegboard, so you would need to use heavy stuff OR enlarge the holes in regular pegboard.

Looks like WT's covered, but for future reference.
I wouldn't trust Plasti-Dip. It's too easily damaged and torn off.
What I've used is the clear vinyl tubing with a snug fit to the pegboard hooks. Sqirt a little WD40 into the tubing for lube, shove it over the hook and then cut off a 1/4" longer than the hook. This won't fit into the barrel of a .22 but will fit other larger calibers.0 -
Looks like the L style hanger would work well. I would sacrifice 1 to test it's strength to make sure they will exceed the weight of any handguns you use them on. One breakage could cost you a lot in damage, so it is well worth making absolutely sure they are strong enough. 0 -

Rubber tubing slid over all the metal hooks here. Easy- a bit thicker -no mess.0 -
I bought some Battenfield pistol racks that were plastic coated. On Amazon someone posted that someone posted that rem oil attacked and dissolved the plastic. I did a test with 10 or 11 different oils and solvents soaked into cotton balls and taped to the rack inside plastic and let it set for a couple of months. I did not have Rem oil (or much else Rem,) but did use similar oils. The only think I found that bubbled and separated the plastic from the metal was Gunzilla (not to be confused with Barzilla), a cleaner with no petroleum distillates.
Your idea will probably work, but it might be worth while testing the plastic coating with the solvents you use.0 -

Traveler- email sent. Warbirds- I am not using the down the bore- thru trigger guard/ under barrel. As far as strength, holding a K-38 with the 8 3/8th heavy barrel with no problems. 0 -
What I use and it works great for me is heat shrink tubing. 0
