Steroids are AWESOME, not......
I have bronchitis, the doc gave me 5 10mg steroid pills prednisone, one a day for five days. They are to help my lungs heal. I went to bed at around 9:00PM and awoke at 2:00AM, I am wide awake drinking coffee.
Steroids disrupt my sleep more than any other drug ever has in my life. It may help reduce the inflammation from the infection but they SUCK otherwise.

When I was hospitalized with back surgery several years ago, things went south and I had to lay flat on my back for a week. One of the docs on the team put me on a steroid drip in my IV.
It was the longest week of my life. I not only counted all the dots in the ceiling but named each and every one of them!![xx(] Feeling massive amounts of energy with no way to spend it. Sleep was an impossible task.
I still retain the bags under my eyes from that ordeal.[V]0 -

I take 50mg Prednisone occasionally, as needed, for gout and other inflammatory ailments...One tablet per day BEFORE 9:30am per notation on the Rx bottle...I don't experience any sleep problems unless I take it in the evening or just before bed time.
Don't take prednisone at bedtime unless you are taking a sleep medication at least one hour before taking the prednisone. Hopefully the sleep medication kicks in before the prednisone..0 -
I been taking 2.5 mg of prednisone one day and 1mg the next for 2 years.
it just helps me pick up weight[:(]0 -
I am borderline diabetic- no insulin, but take Metformin and Victoza. Doc put me on Prednisone as a temp measure for back problem. My blood glucose hit 400.

A lot of people take prednisone for autoimmune disorders. Not good, but might be their only choice as aging is not for the weak. 0 -
I had many sleepless nights while taking the steroids during chemotherapy. I would DVR my favorite TV shows and just spend a few hours watching them, then get up and start the day. Also made a few early morning trips to the office which allowed me to catch up on work items. 0 -
Steroids are some dangerous stuff with bad side effects.
I was having ankle problems a few months ago. I went to a podiatrist.
An MD who specializes in foot and ankle problems.
He shot 2 x rays for 140 bucks, pretty good profit on a digital xray.
But, docs gotta eat, right? So he said I had a sprained ankle.
And he told me he was sending me downtown for an MRI, and also he was going to give me two cortisone shots in the ankle. One today and one in a week.
I flat turned down the MRI. I said to doc "That is cortico steroids right?"
See, he didn't want to use the word "steroids." He said "Yes cortico steroids."
And I said "What are the negative side effects of cortico steroids."
He hemmed and hawed and would not answer the question.
So I also refused the shots.
A month later, I was seeing my chiropractor for a back problem, I mentioned the ankle problem. He said "tendonitis." He got out this little steel block, about the size of a pack of cards, and he massaged the ankle for 3 minutes. I felt immediate relief.
And I found a rock the size of that steel block, and began massaging the ankle once a day for 3 minutes. In a month, my ankle problem cleared up.
So, the MD was completely wrong on the diagnosis, I didn't need a GD MRI, co pay would have been a thousand bucks for me, and I didn't need any GD steroid shots. Really nasty side effects.
If you believe every thing an MD says to you I feel sorry for you. I am very skeptical of MDs.0 -
I slipped at the boat ramp and ended up with a terrible rash from the moss.
The Dr gave me a steroid pills to clear it up.
I was on them for two weeks.
6 months later my leg muscles were aching.
I went for an MRI.
Tech asks me if I had ever been on steroids.
Long story short, in a couple of months after the MRI, I had both hips replaced.
The steroids had basically shut off the circulation to my femur ends.0 -
Prednisone also comes in eye drops in case you get the shingles in the eye. 0 -
This guy has had several Roids injections and still going strong at 71 years young....

Had a 3 month stint with prednisone 25-odd years ago when I was first diagnosed with UC.
By the end of it, I felt like a large pile of mush and was emotional like a little girl.
Had a couple of 2 week speed packs over the next few years to stop flare ups with the same result.
Started smoking again on the advice of a rogue doctor. Went years without having to have prednisone until I had to have the colon removed.
There is going to have to be something very wrong with me before take another steroid.0 -
My late uncle suffered for several years with pulmonary fibrosis. He actually lasted over 5 full years beyond his doctors estimated demise date. He had to take prednisone daily for most of these years and it about ate the skin off of his bones. The normal layers of skin were so weakened that if he just pushed on his arm with his finger, he would have a bruise there.[V] 0 -
I took them after my wasp stings and they really helped a lot with the swelling.
I took my last one for the lung thing this morning so my hopes are up that they did the work needed and no side effects aside from sleep disruption happen.0 -

Prednisone has very little affect on me. Not sure I have ever noticed it work as a treatment for anything for which it has been prescribed and can say for sure I've never noticed a side effect either. May as well be a glass of water for all it does to/for me. 0
