    Who says they do???

    aluminum water pumps,heads, alternators, and many more things have been
    bolted to steel and cast iron.
    Ford used a voltage regulator that had an aluminum cover riveted to a steel base from about 1965 to 1980.
    Heck, I even have a rifle with a cast aluminum trigger housing screwed
    to a steel receiver.
    Just finished cooking dinner on a aluminum pan with a steel handle.

    But can't salt and water be considered an electrolyte? Maybe Ford doesn't care. Probably a 2 year for a bumper to bumper so no problem. I'm not here to bash Ford but just wondering how they handle that potential problem.

    Some motors, like the 5.4 Triton, have spark plugs which meld with the motor making removal problematic, to say the least.
    I run aluminum rims against steel rims on a semi but they have a barrier between them.

    Many engines have aluminum heads. Antiseize is your friend on spark plugs. Can save a lot of money.

    IIRC, The ford spark plug troubles was from bad engineering, not bi-metal corrosive.
    One FU was a two piece shell on the plugs. Then that stupid long nose on the electrode.


    The sparkplug"s outer shell extended into the combustion chamber in a
    funny way, leading to build up of carbon on the plugs. When you tried
    to back out the plug, it wedged the threads into the head.
    All new replacement plugs were supposed to be shaped differently on the noses.

    Yes, for automotive applications, that is the electrolyte.

    Which brings out the point that you have to have an electrolyte to have galvanic corrosion. That is why in applications where the metals are never going to be wet for very long, you don't have to go to great lengths to keep it away.

    And as others have pointed out, if the metals don't actually touch, you won't get galvanic corrosion. Think gaskets, coatings, spacers etc.

    Having worked with many Ford engineers, I can confirm that they have a pretty good understanding of galvanic corrosion. I highly doubt that they dropped the ball on the this type of corrosion with aluminum bodies.

    I might add that having worked with many Ford engineers did Not make me a fan of Ford. Kind of the opposite. But it doesn't mean they are completely stupid either.

    New Ford trucks come with E coated frames and suspension parts. "It coats any metal (aluminum, zinc, brass, steel) that conducts electricity." For protection and corrosion resistance.

    for whatever brand that has those long nose/thread spark plugs i would first blow all around the plug CLEAN, then when turning it just a little loose start drenching it in WD40 turning plug both ways in and out and gradually getting it out...always anti-seize going back with new

    And while Ford takes some flack for going aluminum, I for one applaud them for it.

    My #1 pet peeve on a car/truck is body rust.

    And I tend to keep stuff for a while.

    Heck a truck that is less than 10 years old to me is still 'new'. -& I can't even count the # of 7, 8 and 9 year old trucks I see with body rust through.

    If one or two manufacturers can make vehicles that aren't prone to this, why can't they all?

    Yes, I know the answer - they don't have to because they still sell every one they make.

    Just not to me!

    Yes, I live in the rust belt - if you don't , disregard. Amazing how long stuff can last in Wyoming!

    That picture right there just makes a fella mad to look at!! It just screams all sorts of cussin'! Just screams..."HOMICIDE"!! In fact, I'm kinda surprised one of those plugs doesn't have poo on it from gettin' shoved in the nether regions of some Ford engineer...sideways!

    Wow. Take your meds. It's a spark plug, for crying out loud.

    So you are OK with having to pay $900 to change 8 plugs with
    NO guarantee the head will be usable?
