I'll be putting a CO 2 system in my aquarium this weekend just waiting for the regulator should be here tomorrow and a conversion fitting supposed to be coming Saturday. I'm using a CO 2 bottle from my Soda Stream soda maker.

Bragging or is there a question I'm not seeing [:D]?
Planted tank I take it. How big? I hope you got the lights for it. Plastic plants were my choice since the cichlids would just shred them or eat them [:D].
So I take it the question is the bottle. Back in my day folks used aluminum tanks. 10oz bottles and under don't need to be tested so that was the ticket. Paintball shops were used to refill the tanks.
Later folks started to use CO2 tanks of fountain fizz source. If you got a small tank or don't mind swapping out tanks CO2 source don't matter.
Oh make sure your gravel/rock don't react with the CO2. Limestone or Dolomite not to be mistaken with "Dolemite" [:D].0 -

Not bragging just letting you know as you seem to be the only other person on here that has an aquarium. I received the rest of the parts today but there seemed to be an issue with the Soda Stream adapter fitting the gauges so I'm scrapping the Soda Stream bottle in favor of a 2-1/2 lb. aluminum bottle. So now I'll be delayed about a week. As far as lighting I'm to well set there. I have a 36 inch LED light that will grow the plants I have in there now by itself. I bought some other neat looking plants but they turned out to require a healthy dose of CO2. I pretty much lost most of them. I bought another 36 inch Zoo Med Aqua Effects light that has to be seen to believe. There are unlimited light range settings and it even has sound. Check out there You Tube video0 -

Yeah the fittings will get you. Back in the day folks used like half a dozen adapters with different pitch thread and all to make their rig work.
Say did you send back the Soda Stream? I was kind a curious if you could make hard liquor fizzy. Make some Gin "Fizz".
In my 40 or was it 50 System II I put a used Marineland "Reef" LEDs. Since there was no box I couldn't be sure but it sure does grow green water like crazy [:D]. My baby peacock seems to be growing bigger (what little of them I can see in that pea soup [:D]).
That reminds me are you running UV lights to kill off the free floating algae? All that super LEDs you're running will make that tank green in no time. Also you'll need to be weary of fuzzy/hair algae growing on the leaves of the plants you're trying to grow. You'll need to use fish like Otocinclus or shrimps.0 -
I used to be heavily in to Salt water set ups.
50-75 gal.+ (Started in Miami in 1972ish.) Worked for a Pet Store, we would come install custom set ups.
I've been Jonesing to set up another 50-60 gal. set up.
Thinking Oscars. Have raised them from 1" to apprx. 12"
Cool fish. Aquariums are very stress relieving. Miss it.
Been wanting a large set up.0 -

A number of years ago I had tanks. A 70 gallon tank with a few discus, a couple angels, clown loaches and some corydoras cats. A 55 with some African cichlids lamprologus Brichardi mostly. But I sent the most time raising Killifish. Had 15 to 20 10 gallon tanks set up to breed and raise them. May be time to set up a tank again. 0 -

No I still have the Soda Stream I've had it for about 10 years. I used it for awhile in the beginning but it kinda faded. I told my wife what I was doing with the SS's CO2 bottle and she threw a hissy fit. It was sitting in the basement for 9 years and all of a sudden she wants to use it for something. Well anyway my real 2-1/2 lb bottle is supposed to be here tomorrow. I'll just then need some of the CO2 test solution. The Soda Stream will make anything fizzy [:)][:)]. I run my UV lights about 10-12 hours a night. I have to cut back on the LED lights to about 6 hours a day. Sometimes I run one or both but now I'm getting algae on the glass. I haven't had any signs of floating algae but the CO2 will take care of the algae problem once its installed.0 -

So water content doesn't effect the fizziness of booze. Good to know.
