Effective January 1,2018 The NC STOP act mandats limitations on prescription for acute pain.
Medical providers can not prescribe more than a 5 day supply of any Schedule 2 or 3 opioid or narcotic for acute pain or more than a 7 day supply for post surgical procedures.
Medical providers that are not in accordance with these limitations may be subject to civil liability and disciplinary action.

I doubt this law is going to effect anyone but those who take pain meds to help with pain. It is going to cause those people to constantly run back and forth to their CVS to get scripts filled.
The Drug addicts will not be effected and if they are it will just be an inconvenience.0 -
This is a new law in North Carolina Forge.
They instituted this law because we have a really bad drug problem, especially where Dave lives.0 -
If I lived in NC I would need to go to another state to have my 2nd knee replaced. Simple as that.
Like most government agencies it's easier for them to punish those that do not need it than address those that do. Why do we keep putting up with this crap?0 -

I fell off a ladder and broke three ribs doc at the ER gave me a scrip for 10 pills mostly Acetimenamin an 5 MG of something narcotic with a take 1-2 every six hours note.
That means using them the way I was told at the bare minimum I was going to be out in 60 hours!
Went to a regular Doc who gave me 20 more, and said that he wouldn't be able to prescribe any more. In severe pain I went back in when those were gone and said I would kick him in the nuts if he didn't give me more (JK sort of)so I got 20 more. Turned out I needed surgery busted up the insides pretty good but couldn't get any more meds.
Glad I didn't get addicted but really if you are in pain they need to give you something.0 -

It is a stupid PC attempt to quell a problem that usually fixes itself. Most junkies self delete at some point in time or do something that kills them.0 -
my doc here stopped several years ago along with about all the other's
my doc told me the government started monitoring just how many and often he prescribed pain meds and would step in
they passed all of us ( dumped ) to pain clinics now once a month I have to go in pay my co-pay ask how I am doing check my BP talk for 3 minutes and get the next months pain med scrip
oh and random P test . before it was once maybe twice a year see my doc and keep the scrips filled
from what I gather in the waiting room they cut a lot of peoples meds back now there in pain and more days of suffering because the clinic decided they were getting too much or two many they tried to cut mine back from first visit
a lot of I will have to make it on street drug talk .. seems right force the legitimate people to the street dealers
and the office(s) are packed0 -
I have to go to the pain clinic now for my meds. I have been going to one about 3 or 4 years.
My pain doctor told me a few months ago that if i was to go to her today from another doctor she would turn me down as a patient.
She told me that i take to much pain medicine and that the government thinks i should get half of what i receive a month.
She told me the government does not want a doctor to give out more than 60mgs of pain meds a day. I have been on 120 mgs for over 8 years.
She told me that she knows i am in pain and does not doubt that i need pain medicine but that the government is so involved now that it is crazy.
About 3 months ago i was in a room that was by the nurses desk and during my 15 or 20 minuet doctors visit at least 8 people called wanting more pain meds.
They were either lost, stolen or just ran out but they kept asking. Later i asked the nurse if that is normal and she told me people call all day every day wanting more pain meds.0 -

Wife was prescribed 6 days worth of Hydrocodone (Norco) here in MI yesterday following arthroscopic knee surgery.
What's also helped is that she was provided a machine you add ice and water to that is then circulated through tubes and a sleeve around her knee. Helps with both pain and swelling.0 -

But as I said, what you are saying is only part of the story.
There is probably a reason you physician has posted only what he wants you to know. He/she certainly knows better.
Health care providers often blame the state, or "government", for decisions they willingly take for their own convenience, while misstating the laws they are claiming to follow.
Drug seekers are nothing new, we had them forty years ago, although I can imagine the numbers have increased over the years.

This whole mess is why I continue to just live with chronic back/neck/hip pain. I really don't want to take those kinds of meds in the first place, but I refuse to jump through all the hoops they have set up for people with chronic pain, whether it's the docs or otherwise.
I have been referred to a pain management doctor several times, but continue to turn it down.
At my last appointment with my GP a couple of weeks ago, I asked him which he felt was least harmful to me of the things I use on occasion for pain,.....NSAIDS, or low dose prednisone. Instead of getting a straight answer to my question, he says I should be using medical MJ. I got up and left, and am researching new doctors in my area.0 -
after almost a lifetime of living with an occassional migraine or sinus headache that would knock me down flat in 2 hours when weather change came thru i finally got one prescrip for a pill that makes em go away ... NO woozy, wobbly, or any side effects ..it just goes away (3 way blend).. made the first 30 pills last 7 years...still got most of the 2nd fill...WUNDERFUL STUFF THANX DOC.... 0 -

I didn't storm out or anything, I was just surprised at his suggestion.
It basically made me rethink how well we really know one another after quite a few years of a doctor/patient relationship. I most likely will not go anywhere unless I was to run across a really great new doctor in the area. We ARE having quite an expansion of healthcare facilities around here as the area continues to grow rapidly.0 -

+100 It is cheaper to buy off the street now, heroin, then go through
the cost of a doctor, drug test that only is checking for YOU taking your prescribed meds. Then off to the pharmacy to spend more money.
Then repeat every 30 days.
If I didn't have insurance, who now cries like a little baby because of the high cost now, I would have to pursue other avenues for chronic pain relief.
Instead of increasing my meds to a level that would be practical and provide consistent relief, now want to experiment with wires to my spinal column with a monitor battery pack under my skin. I guess when the battery pack, probably lithium, catches on fire or melts under my skin and the wires make a paraplegic out of me, the dimwits that thought this up will not be the ones that I take a HAMMER to their nut sacks. Because they will be nowhere to be found.
It is truly insane to punish the person that has the medical need, proven by a not one but two, three doctors that yes you have a medical physical need for relief.
I am in agreement that Darwins Theory will weed them out. The problem is the 1 percent that kill them selves by accident. I am a believer that a percentage are committing a clean type of suicide, euthanasia
with their meds also.
As long as there is a black market then there will be people willing to buy. If you can not buy legally then the only alternative is to
find a source elsewhere, that is cheaper anyway. I Digress0
