Scope for AR-15
I have a Bushmaster that has the traditional, non-removable carrying handle. My aging eyes would like a modest power scope- but traditional scope mounts, coupled with the carrying handle- just WAY too high.
Suggestions for a scope and mounts that will work ON THE CARRYING handle would be welcome.

I would go with some kind of red dot without magnification. 0 -

I like the Vortex Crossfire II 1-4 V-Brite. Low magnification and a red dot for cheap money. But a carry handle? I suppose you could go old school and get the AR scope made for the carry handle. 0 -

It's a tough thing to deal with that carry handle when you want to scope an AR. You could save a lot of frustration by changing out the upper receiver to a flattop variety. Cost is <$75 for a good upper and it would totally solve your problem.
The carry handles are nice for nostalgia but the flattop is where it is at for everything else.0 -
There are several handle mounts available. Do not buy cheap, you will regret it; uppers are cast, as are most mounts.
I bought an EOTech, which works well. You really don't need a cheek weld, as long as you are shooting .223.

We have this. Was a freebe rebate in 79 or 80[IIRC] w/Colt SR-1
Sits nice on the carry handle and when I remove it - it has always been on target when reinstalled.

thats what i ended up doing as i found out putting a scope on the carry handle put the view up way too high, making me rubber neck too much. glad i went that route.0 -
While it's not pretty, I've been running an old 3X9 Redfield on the carry handle of my H-Bar for years. Once I adjusted for eye relief, etc it's easily a tack driver at 2-300 yds all day. But, as stated before, sure as hell not aesthetically pleasing. (One benefit with the carry handle though, is that the scope can be removed/re-installed with almost no change in zero.) 0 -

I have a Sig-Tac CP3, on recommendation from my Ranger Brother/Best friend, on my custom Essential Arms AR.
It is very nice. I believe it was about $200, a few years ago.
Another excellent scope/red dot I own, is a Bushnell M/P Trophy. Also about $200. It rides on a Marlin Camp 9.

One more vote for a new upper - $200 to $350 at PSA complete w/ bolt/carrier, etc. Or just $49 from many vendors for a stripped flat top upper, but you'll need to take apart your existing one and rebuild. Not a big deal. 0 -
I recently bought a Burris AR-536 Prism on a whim. Got it for what I thought was a decent price. Hopefully in the near future, I will be able to see how I like it. 0 -

Colt was asking price. Some on {elsewhere} think they have gold.
Last mint one sold for $350
I have a different Barska scope on another rifle and like it. Was a great deal at Classic.
Good stuff for the $$ IMHO0 -
+1 on better glasses. You will have a high profile for cheek rest not to mention problems getting your AR in cases. 0
