I have a Little Skeeters subgauge adapter from 12GA to 28GA so I have a Stevens 311 SXS in 12/28. 0 -
I have 2 Little Skeeters in .410 for 12 gauge. They have no choke at all in them. I don't like punching the empties out. The Stevens is auto eject and full choke. 0 -

Savage 24V, .30-.30 over 20ga. Hard to find combo. Very nice wood. Simmons Pro Series Diamond reticle Shotgun scope. I believe you gave me the heads up on the auction Select.)

Doves. I shoot 3" 8's in the .410. Very nice pattern out to 35Yd. Have gotten them farther but the odds go down. The bottom paradox barrel is deadly. It scatters a pattern 48" x 48" at 25 yds. Just plain hard to miss.0 -

Mine works fine, shucks them right out after fired.It is a Savage 4 tenner which is about 18" long. However those Browning Skeeters have to manually remove the little tube and take a dowel and punch out the empty.0 -

Interesting, as it dates to 1870 (long before the Mosin-Nagant). The image in your link shows a cartridge without a neck. I have a wooden box that came with it containing 9 original cartridges, none with a head stamp, they all have a neck like most common rifle cartridges. A hand press came with it for reloading. I've never fired it though. The chamber for the 20 gauge barrel is also about 2-1/4" (so it's an odd ball). Nice to hold and look at, discuss it's likely past hunting stag and pheasants in the Black Forest, perhaps. [;)]
Sorry,should have stressed short version of machine gun ammo, not revolver which has the sealing brass front.
Your shell is most likely the parent case for the later smg and
revolver cases.

Yes, I'm a collector too and not everything is as we believe it to be when it comes to antiques and oddities. It's been suggested that only the cartridge diameter and length was measured, and the projectile not included in the measurement. My father acquired it from Lewis Winant (author of Firearms Curiosa) back in the mid-60's. [;)]
doesn't make sense that way too. 51 mm is just the case length,
your sizes match the 7.62x39 ak/sks round but with a rim.0 -

Don't underestimate the .410. In a 3" .410 11/16 oz ..there are 282 #8 pellets. In a 12 gauge 2.3/4 high brass 1.25 oz there are 281 #6 shot.0 -

I posted pics of what is a 7.62mm x 38.5 rimmed shell.
Your shell could be the parent cartridge for the M/N. The M/N
thought they had a better system for sealing gases, I would think they
used a existing shell to develop their gun.
Just like the 30/06 is to the .270win. or even more extreme,
the .357mag is to the .22jet.

Favorite combo gun is my Browning Centennial Continental set.
Browning Superposed Superlight 20ga O/U with a set of O/U 30-06 Barrels to make it an Express Rifle!
Stunning combination and shoots like a dream.
Otherwise:
Marlin Model 90 22/410 Deluxe O/U.
I'm personally not a fan of sub gauge inserts in a large bore shotgun unless you are trying to get use of an old Damascus gun or something.
I carry a sub Gauge shotgun because they're lighter than a 12 ga!
And a hell of a lot more fun!0
