Why does he dislike the "Backstrap" Safety, which I have always called a grip safety?

Sam, I run into this scenario quite often with guns requiring an inordinate amount of grip safety arm travel to unblock the trigger bow. They want me to 'pin' the safety down, which I will not do.

Also: Even with the 'bump' on the grip safety some shooters grip and the contour of their lower thumb (not enough meat) doesn't depress the safety enough. It's an easy 10 minute fix.

Also, the commentator needs to be a little careful with his assessment of trigger over-travel.

At first he describes the weapon as having zero over-travel. And later he says it has minimum over-travel.

Without adequate over-travel you can damage the sear nose or have a nice looking paperweight,,,,,,[:o)]

I remember back in the 70's and 80's some shooters would want to pin the Grip Safety. I never saw the advantage but then I have large hands and the grip safety has never been a problem.

I had a Star PD I really liked but I was always suspicious of it because it lacked a grip safety same with my Detonics Combat Master.

I personally like the grip safety on a 1911 style gun.

I too am a fan of the design. Without it, many would naturally put their thumb up, behind the slide/hammer and get a wake-up call. I've seen images of dummies that defeated it's function with an odd ball grip and do just that. Ouch. [:0]

Also, it is a "backup" safety feature in case somehow you accidentally bump the manual safety to the off position.

I really do like the micro 9, but I don't like the fact that it doesn't have a grip safety... But that's just the way my tastes run.

Maybe that makes me a cupcake[;)]
