Laid Buddy to rest
I just came back in , we burred one of our dogs.
"Buddy" our German Shepard just turned 12 a few weeks back . my wife called him her gentle giant
we had the vet stop by and take away his pain late today . both my sons both came over to say goodbye and help me out .
I had a hole ready from back when the weather was still nice out we knew he would not have long to go .but no way were going to let him suffer when it got close to the end for him
as the ground is frozen we put 6 bags of concrete on and around him
I will finish off with dirt this spring
It never gets any easier to say goodbye to a long term pal lots of tears but he had a great life he never knew a chain or collar and loved as much as any dog could be .
we still have 4 dogs to help ease and comfort us
laid him to rest beside some of our other departed pals

I am Very Sorry for your Loss. It never gets easier as you grow older either. I started to dig the site early and some how they last longer. You know it may seem silly but I also make a headstone with name.
Good Bye Buddy0 -
Sorry for your loss 0 -
Sorry to hear of your loss. My dog is my best friend. I'd be devastated. 0 -
Our critters are never with us long enough. While here, they give unconditional affection and loyalty, attributes not found with many people. Buddy will always be with you in spirit, remember him fondly. Those 4 legged friends still with you are grieving too. Spend time with them as they will need you as you do them. My deepest sympathy on your loss. 0 -
thanks all
almost to the day two years ago we did the same with Betsy another long time companion ,they grew up together
there now back together with a host of other past companions we have lost hopefully waiting at the rainbow bridge [^]0 -
Very sorry to hear that, as the old adage goes " A dog will give you some of the happiest days of your life, and one of the saddest" 0 -
My condolences, DR. Very sorry for your loss. 0 -
I am very sorry, ditch. 0 -
Hey Ditch - sorry to hear. You are right though, doesn?t get easier.
Daughter and her family are out of town this weekend and I said I?d take care of her dog, 9 and going blind, rather than put her in the kennel and stress her out. Only dog I see regularly since ours passed. Hurts to know she?s likely gone soon too, but the kids don?t know to talk to her before they get close and no one wants to see a little one bit due to the surprise. Shame they don?t live longer but I?d hate to have one outlast me.
Take care.0 -
I'm sorry to hear about your loss. Those four-legged family members become just as much family as our two-legged family members... 0 -

Sorry for your loss friend. [:(]
Mourn Buddy, remember the way Buddy lived. Remember the say he put a smile on your face, as well as how much he appreciated the good life you guys gave him.

My current best buddy likes to lay his head and half his front end over my left side when we go to bed at night. He puts pressure on me with much of his 110 pound body weight until I pet him behind his ears into submission. Then settles at the foot of the bed and keeps my feet warm. [:)]
Having lost many over the years, I have learned to appreciate every single day in the life of my friend. Being human, I can foresee into the future of such a short life, knowing of the sadness to come.
There are no guarantee's about a tomorrow for any of us and having the joy of a good dog sure makes me realize the importance for living the moment of today!
Ditch-Runner, I do know what you are feeling, as we both share the same joys in life with our four legged friends. May your sorrows soon end and your memories of your Buddy remain with happiness and good times! All the best....Joel0 -
I had to put this guy down nine years ago this past Jan 22nd at 9 years old due to bloat. He too was a gentle giant...I've had to put down three others since then...and it doesn't ever get easier, but losing him was traumatic because it was unexpected and had to be a fast decision due to his immense suffering and fear of not knowing what was going on. They live in our hearts forever. [:(]

Beautiful Sheppard Shilowar! Is bloat the same thing as stomach turning? I hear stories about a dog's stomach turning from over aggressive water drinking.
Very sad when a dog goes unexpectedly at an early age! My Coco, an Australian Sheppard died in her sleep at the foot of my bed. She was only 7 years old.[V]0 -
Prayers and tears brother.
They are God's gift to man.0 -
Heartfelt sympathy. Lost my Tazz last May and miss him dearly. Tears in my eyes when I think of him. 0
