    then you read about the burial at sea of the Japanese Kamikazi pilot who crashed into the battleship Missouri, and was afforded the service by the Captain.

    They gave so much. Grandpa, Dad, Uncle Ollie and Grayson and 1st cousin Calvin from Mineral, Va. KIA 11/23/1967 gave all. All Army. Gets me too.

    bothers me..i understand the situation but flip side is they can never really come home .......???

    My father in law?s half brother was shot down over Germany in a bomber. He is buried in the local cemetery.
    One sad thing, he wasn?t married, had no children. All his siblings are gone. No one knows any of the details about his service. Just a few pictures of him in uniform.
    Thousands just like him. Sad.

    Whether buried in a box in the cold hard ground, cremated and ashes thrown to the wind, or buried in a mangled plane at sea what remains of him is in the hearts of those that loved him. Most of us will someday be forgotten through the deaths of those that cared, irregardless of where our mortal remains end up.

    They are home. The sea is their home. My father was buried at sea. [^]


    Yes they are home. In the hearts of loved ones.

    1980,I was at a grocery store when I was about 20 years old some years ago and seen this Old Fellow, he was wearing a hat with the USS WASP on it. I went over to thank him for his service at a time when that was not the custom it is now.

    Knowing what Guadalcanal was because my Best Friends Father was in combat on the Island and shot in the head and survived. Anyway I walked over and said Thank You and Guadalcanal and I am proud that you "Made It". Him and His Wife looked at me and just started to tear up. I started to apologize and the Wife said to me that has to be the
    most beautiful thing anyone has ever said since the war to Him.

    He shook my Hand did not say a word, held my Hand for what seemed like
    an eternity, and said their are two things that He has done in his life that he is Proud of, The U.S.Navy and He Married His Wife.

    From that day on I was always a little gunshy about approaching someone wearing anything WWII or Korea on.
