Just a matter of time with idiots like this letter to the editor:
    https://www.roanoke.com/opinion/letters/bachman-virginia-citizens-defense-league-isn-t-a-voice-for/article_1f77473f-e9f6-530a-8ee6-5090d796f1c8.html

?Virginia Citizens Defense League dues notices were mailed recently. Do not be deceived about VCDL and do not pay.

VCDL is "dedicated to advancing the fundamental human right of ALL Virginians to keep and bear arms," including anyone capable of getting their hands on a gun. See their website.

After correspondence with all VCDL directors, I discovered VCDL is absolutely intolerant of any suggestions for new laws for the purchase or possession of guns. VCDL leaders are not willing to compromise, discuss, consider or accept any opposing views regarding gun control.

So VCDL is not protecting the rights of gun owners and is clearly just an obstructionist organization.

I am a gun collector with a Federal Firearms License and very good high-tech security system. I am also a VCDL member to the end of September, when my membership, thankfully, will expire.

As a frequent traveler with firearms, I know the difficulties of remaining legal while carrying guns through every state and city in the U.S. It?s a real problem that needs a national solution that VCDL is totally opposed to even discussing.

Better gun control is a national problem that needs a federal solution that VCDL is not willing to consider. Sen. Tim Kaine is on the right track with respect to background checks ? and I am a Republican.

I have suggested a national system of training, testing and licensing for gun owners carrying guns in public based on existing ATF procedures that would not infringe on anyone's right to have a gun except idiots.

There are ways to accomplish this objective without infringing on existing rights to keep guns in homes. We only need to get smart on gun control, and VCDL is obstructing rather than helping.

We need a license to drive a car, run a boat, fly an airplane, or cut hair, why not to carry a gun in public?

Renewing VCDL membership is a mistake until the organization starts cooperating with Virginia legislators on gun control and gets a new public face.?
