More Baltimore City stupidity

The Baltimore City Public Schools Board of School Commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday to oppose allowing school resource officers to carry guns in the buildings.
On Tuesday, the board voted 10-to-0 to oppose House Bill 31.
The officers have to lock-up their guns at the start of their shifts. Baltimore school resource officers are the only police officers in the state who cannot carry weapons inside of schools.
Students who opposed school resource officers to be armed took over the meeting. One of those groups of students is known as the Baltimore Algebra Project.
A spokesperson for the American Civil Liberties Union said armed officers in schools would disrupt learning.
"(It's) very important that students are in an environment where they feel safe and comfortable, and having a gun around is not comfortable for learning," said Kimberly Humphrey, of ACLU.
Some parents wished to have the SROs carry their weapons in school.
"I support the second amendment. De-escalate armed suspects. Let's de-escalate when they're firing at you. You just jump up and shout, 'de-escalate.' It doesn't work," said parent Leo Burroughs Jr.
"Let's do right by making safety a priority for our students by arming these police officers," said another parent.
The board passed the motion unanimously to keep SROs from bringing weapons into school buildings. While the decision isn't binding, it sends a clear message to the General Assembly.
Clyde Boatwright, president of the school police FOP is not happy with the outcome.
"We just need to be clear that if and when we have a serious situation in Baltimore, everyone is going to look back at this day and say, 'You know what? They had a chance to get it right and they didn't,'" Boatwright said.
Boatwright said he find the verdict interesting considering two years ago the board voted to send the bill to the General Assembly. He called the meeting a minor setback

Yes, I caught that. Can't punish the little darlings for acting like animals though. I love the line about the kids "not feeling safe" with a gun around. I wonder how many of their classmates are packing? When I was in school we didn't have resource officers. We just knew how to behave.0 -

Really, board members should have had them removed or arrested but not be a spineless jellyfish. The city is doomed then if the inmates run the asylum.0 -
