They will use it as ammunition against ALL private sales including family gifting. The leftists do not care about stats, they care about keeping the emotion high in order to push through their agenda. The next step is citing the report as a mandate to create a registry of all firearms in the country.
The registered owner will be held responsible for any damage caused by a person using the firearm absent a police report stating that it was stolen. We should also note that some jurisdictions are working to make having a firearm stolen from you is a crime.
This is what is needed for the current NICS/FFL system to achieve its stated goal, after all.
If you support the NICS system, you should be on board.
If you support the FFL system, you should be on board.
If you support the screening process of Form 4473, you should be on board.
All steps in the same direction the grabbers are taking us.0 -

Almost any mechanically inclined person can build a modern firearm with a minimal amount of tools. That's includes a barrel with riflings...
Brazil is the number one supplier of Black market 1911a1 pistols around the world, but especially in America. and they build them all by hand, using nothing but hand tools with no electricity...
If it's ever been invented, people can copy it whether legally or illegally. And you can't stop that.
The United States can try to stop the import of Black market firearms, but they have a had a war on drugs for years, and they haven't stopped it. Infact illegal drugs are easier to get now than they were 40-50 years ago when they declared war on drugs. Laws don't help, a criminal mindset would rather get or do something illegally that they would to get or do something legally. It's just the nature of the beast. Take Prohibition for instance, there was more alcohol made and consumed during prohibition then any other time in history per capita.
If somebody wants it, and somebody knows how to make it, there will be a market. Either legal or illegal
The best the government can and should do is make sure that law-abiding citizens are armed to protect themselves from criminals...

Last week HBO's Vice News ran a show about guns in Brazil.
The President of Brazil has introduced legislation that would make it easier for law abiding citizens to buy guns, since seizing the guns of criminals has not lowered the highest murder rate in the world.
A TV reporter visited a police gun evidence room; it looked like there must have been 20,000 - 30,000 guns, maybe more. I saw a lot that looked better quality than I have seen seized in my home state.
The reporter went for a ride=along with a drug gang in a Rio favella; they were armed with 3 AK-47's (FA, underfolder stocks), a FA Glock with extended mag, & several pump 12 ga shotguns. They were hanging the guns outside of their cars, no one seemed upset. It would be interesting to know the source of the FA guns.0
