    What is it with the school districts only having 77% of students being vaccinated.

    That is plain stupid. A student should not even be allowed on school property without being vaccinated.

    Maybe they should be less concerned about guns and more concerned about vaccinations.

    If I remember correctly, getting the measles was considered a good thing when I was a lad so you would not get it when you were an adult.

    Once you got it, you were immunized.

    You ran a bit of a fever, itched for a bit, and after a few days went back to school.

    It was very good for the young ladies to get it in grammar school because getting the disease meant you would not get it when you were with child, potentially endangering the fetus.

    We were effectively vaccinated by getting the disease. Are the current strains of measles more dangerous than they were 50+ years ago?

    I do not remember 'measles parties', but do remember being brought to a kids house when I was 5 or 6 so that I could catch chicken pox.

    It is often fatal if the individual is under 5.

    3 day measles maybe, but there were no vaccines for much of anything when I was a kid, small pox pretty much, later polio, but the 'German measles' and be deadly to small kids.

    I remember having the measles, chicken pox, and who could ever forget getting the MUMPS!! I looked like a greedy chip monk with a craw chock full of sunflower seeds![:0][:I]

    All were considered "normal" childhood diseases at the time.

    My kid sister and baby brother got a case of the whooping cough. They both had to stay with an aunt and uncle who didn't have kids for a couple of weeks.

    Since childhood, I have had about every preventative injection there is. Military made good and sure I would not catch the Bubonic Plague or anything else those foreign lands had to give us!
