Kerosene Heater -
I know many of you frown on their use, but they throw off Serious heat.
Power went off this am around 10 am, had the Woodstove going. Fired up the Kerosene heater 1st time this year, House instantly heated up, although Kerosene heater set to it's lowest setting.
It will throw off 15,000 BTU's when cranked. I keep it at it's absolute lowest setting. It Rocks!
12 hours plus, on the lowest setting possible. Heats the House up like crazy when lit.
Yes, I have a new/modern Carbon monoxide detector. Fire up my Kerosene heater 2-4 times per winter, when it is forcasted to get in to the low single digits.
Going now, super comfy. [:D]

My 15,000 BTU infrared heater cost me a lot less than a kerosene heater would have, and a lot less to run, plus being safer on top that.
And for when the power goes out I have my 15,000 BTU catalytic propane heater...
No chance of CO2 poisoning with either one if my CO2 detector is faulty0 -
I knew it all y'all whities just didn't want me to get the Kerosene heater pretending to care about my well being and how it was gonna kill the yellow man with this "Carbon Monoxide". I bet the whities made up this "Carbon Monoxide". Another "white" lie.
Is Kerosene a "white" fuel? Oh I bet it is. Denying the yellow man this Arian fuel. Shame on y'alls. Just for that I'm going to start dating only white women [:D].0 -
Since I have about 40 gallons of K-1 bought at apprx $1.99/gallon
I love kerosene heat as well. I heat my house with wood, but use the kerosene in the garage when working out there in the winter. I have the round unit that puts off crazy heat 360 degrees and doubles as a cook top as well if needed. Problem is, K1 kerosene is $3.50 a gallon around here. I just bought 23 gallons yesterday. I would love to get K1 for $1.99 a gallon!0 -
I also have 2 1K Propane tanks(That I own) so I don't need to fill up too often.
I have a who house Generator that runs on Propane too.
I paid $1.26 a gal for propane this year.0 -
So to convert joules to BTU you multiply watts by 3.4.
A 5600 watt heater converts to about 15,000 btus.
I don't get the big deal.0 -
I bought 5 gallons of K-1 kerosene at the only local station I know of that sells it around here and it was $4.00 a gallon.I use it in my workshop and it will make some good heat. 0 -
Well, at least make sure that they are at least 36" from any combustible....

Besides the safety considerations, CO being the most important, they seem to generate moisture. Do you notice your windows sills pooling with condensate water? 0
