The 49R had a terrible reputation for not feeding properly. Ithaca even gave up on them, instead importing lever guns from Erma in Germany and selling them as the model 72. If the one you are looking at feeds well is a rare one.

I would buy it,,yes they did have a reputation for jamming if short stroked but in any decent shape they are selling for$350+ so even if it does not work correct you can not get hurt on it

Those are kind of cool guns. For some reason people ask a lot for them. I think $120 for a nice one is a fair price. Get it clean it up and give it to a Grand kid.

When i die all my guns are going to kids and grandkids. Plus my wife wants a few.

Sometime this year i am going to put tags on which person gets what gun.

Between 11 people each will get about 12 or 13 guns and about 15 knives each.

Some of these single shots had issues with the extractors. I'm keeping an eye out for one in great shape myself.

If you're getting the repeater for $120 I think I'd want to test fire it first.

I bought an Ithica lever action single shot off of GunBroker from a man in the discussion boards but i do not remember who that was.

I like it and i use it to get the kids shooting.

After the Cricket they move to the Ithica lever action single shot.

Then they move to the Marlin or 10/22 with 5 rounds of ammo.

Before long they are shooting fully loaded guns.

Like someone said in another post brick by brick. LOL

I would not take it too far apart, they are very complicated with lots of small parts.

It's not a lever action rifle - it's a single shot falling block action with a false non operative tube may below the bbl...

Yes, that is the single shot, MrMike. The 49R is the repeater. I have had a 49 since 1966 and it has been a good rifle, although I haven't shot it for 25 years. Martini action with a groove to slide the round into the chamber. Never handled a 49R, although at one time I wanted one. Glad I didn't get it, according to reliability reports stated here.
