Which youth shotgun?

My 10 year old daughter is showing interest in hunting. She has been shooting my .223 at targets.
I want to get her a gun. I believe the 20 gauge would be the best gauge;12 is too big and 410 are hard to find and the shells are expensive.
1. Is my reasoning flawed? I don't want to scare her off with the recoil.
2. If 20 is OK, would you get a single shot, pump or auto? I hope she will use this gun for many years and her brother is 2 years behind her.

I appreciate any wisdom.

    Definately go with the 20. Counter to many popular beliefs, the 410 is NOT a good starter shotgun. A single shot is shorter, lighter, and has more recoil due to these factors. A pump is longer, heavier and has less recoil due to these factors. The semiauto is close to the same weight as the pump and usually gives some recoil reduction vs. the pump.I'm always a little concerned about a total novice shooter with an auto but it will be OK if you provide proper supervision.

    Rossi single shot, with an interchangable .22 rifle barrel.

    Remington 1100 20 gauge youth. Single shots are light, thus more felt recoil.

    Remington makes the 870, in a COMPACT, youth version. They even make it with a PINK cam0 stock, and forarm. It would be perfect for her. I have personally gotten one of these exact guns for a young shooter of the female gender. She is infatuated with it, and intends to kill a deer with it this fall.

    Remington 1100LT-20. Light enough weight and recoil for a young shooter. Before you buy anything, have her try to hold, swing and if possible, shoot the gun. Rent or borrow some singles, semi-autos and pumps and see which fits and is best for her.

    Another alternative is the Beretta 3901 RL. Just been through this with a little lady who is wanting to shoot clays. With the "reduced recoil" loads, the 12 shoots easier than a 20. The 3901 RL has an adjustable comb & the LOP is adjustable from 12"-13".

    My son has one of these and he unfortunately could shoot all day with it. [:D] Even slugs.
    An old Stevens single, bout one and done.

    My vote would be for a 20ga youth Rem 870 or Mossberg 500. The pump will be a controllable medium between a single & semi-auto. Some Mossbergs come with spacers to add to the stock as she grows & a coupon towards a full size stock if needed.
