1894 Marlin Date of Manufacture

I tried Googling Marlin date of manufactuer for my 1894 Marlin and it just got more confusing,My rifle is an 1894 25-20 serial no. 418248 can one of you Marlin experts tell me the year it was made? Thanks Dave

    Marlin serial numbers only up to 335XXX are listed on the oldguns site, at this link.

    1973 was the first year to determine the year by subtracting the first 2 numbers of the serial number from 100. '69-72 have a 2 digit prefix, '65-68 have a 2 letter prefix, '46-64 have a single letter prefix. Prior would make it time to contact the Cody Firearms Museum. Keep us posted Dave.

    No luck trying to e-mail Marlin, I know it's not new and the stamps on the barrel are " Pat'd Oct 11 1887,April 2 1889 and Aug 1 1893" and no safety instructions stamped on the barrel about reading the manual first. But thanks for the comebacks. I'll try contacting the Cody museum. Dave

    During the years of 1900-1906, inclusive, approximately 158,000 serial numbers were assigned to Marlin guns, including the Model 1894, which amounts to an average of 22,614 serial numbers being used each year over the seven year period. By using the estimated year ending serial number of 355,300 for 1906, and the serial number on your 1894, which is 418248, we find a difference of 62,948, which would place the estimated DOM of your 1894 in late 1909, provided we use the aforementioned 22,614 yearly production figure.

    Kimi is correct Dave. I have the same rifle with in 25-20. What is the barrel length on yours? Unfortunately after serial number 355XXX there was a fire and records were lost!! Would love to see pics of your rifle.
