Handgun Hangers for Gun Safes

I found an article similar to this on the internet some time ago, so I can't take credit for it. But...............I tried it and it works, so I thought I'd pass it along.

There's a simple, inexpensive way to add handgun holders to your gun safe. The cost of buying metal racks or velcro loops can run from $25-$50. You can do it yourself for $10 or less. Here's how........

A. Buy a bag of wooden sewing spools (Large Barrel Spools, 20 pieces) from Hobby Lobby or any craft store in your area. Cost, $2.99. Or, you can raid your wife's sewing kit.

B. Buy some 10x2 Pan Head Phillips Screws from your local Hardware Store, $.15 ea.

Most gun safes have a wooden panel on the door, which is covered by cloth. If you can remove this panel, so much the better, but it's not necessary.

C. Lay out a pattern on the door panel for your handguns, using the spools as a guide. Two spools are needed for each handgun. For revolvers, position the spools under the barrel and behind the trigger guard. For pistols, position the spools in front of the trigger guard and under the hammer guard. Allow a little slack so removal of the handgun is easier. With the barrels pointed at a slight down angle, the handguns will stay secure by their own weight.

D. Drill SMALL pilot holes in the door, again using the spools as a guide.

Caution needs to be mentioned here: Make sure the screws do not interfere with the safes lock mechanism, and make sure there's enough clearance so that the hanging handgun doesn't interfere with the door closing. You may have to make some slight adjustments, but that's the fun of trial and error.

E. Screw the spools into the pilot holes on the panel.

F. Hang the handguns on the spools.

G. Step back and enjoy a job well done.
