AR-15 ammo
A Colt ar-15 sp-1 followed me home today along with over 500 rounds of Russian ammunition. Is there anything to be concerned about with shooting the Russian ammo? And is there a websight someone could reccomend that shows how to disassemble these for cleaning? Thanks alot, Ed

Hi there my wife just bought me a new preban AR6520 Colt AR-15 carbine.
I have two questions, first the lower receiver at the mag well is marked .223 but on the top of the barrelnear the flash hider it says C MP 5.56 NATO 1/7.
Does this mean the rifle fires both .223and 5.56?
Second what does the C MP stand for? I understand the 1/7 part.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.0 -
If your barrel is marked 5.56 then, it will chamber and safely shoot, both 5.56, and 223 remington ammunition. The 223 Remington chambers are mostly reserved for the slow twist, and lighter/shorter bullets, and therefor have a shorter chamber throat.
Being a 1 in 7 twist, your rifle should like the 62-77 grain bullets, really well.
I am not absolutely sure what the C MP stands for, but think the C part might stand for Colt.

Per US milspec standards, Colt AR's are chambered for 5.56x45/5.56 NATO.
Their rifles can be correctly referred to as 5.56/.223 guns because they'll also shoot .223 Remington with no problems. This round can be fired using a 5.56x45 chamber, but 5.56x45 can't safely be fired in a .223 chamber.
C MP indicates this barrel is a Colt component and was magnetic particle inspected after being subjected to a 40% overpressure proof round.
If you remove the handguards and look on the bottom of the barrel near the receiver you'll also find a letter code indicating whether the barrel was actually Colt produced or a contracted item. Letter O denotes Colt.

USGI barrel nomenclature is structured: manufacturer, quality control, caliber, twist rate, miscellaneous info.
Shorter barrels on Colt AR-type rifles currently display that abbreviated marking seen on the OP's rifle, but these barrel's bore and chamber are chromed.0 -
Thanks for everyones help, I know this is a question thats been asked to death but i waited a long time for this rifle and didnt want to screw anything up.
