u.s.property
i have a S no4 mk1*303 u.s.property it is not the conventional lee enfield,it does not have the bridge over the bolt.
i have looked every where i can think of,but i can not find out what i have.
i have seen the savage stevens E.A.L.and its the closest thing to what i have, does any one have any idea what this rifle is?.

Pictures would help a lot. Could be a made in USA one for the lend lease program.
how to post pic's http://forums.GunBroker.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2592940 -
This photo off the net shows a top view of a Savage made SMLE. If your's doesn't have the bridge, it has been bubbaed, for some unknown reason? Far as I'm aware the bridge was a integral part of the receiver.

The following is a Enfield forum that may have some interesting information that may be helpful to you. See: http://forums.gunboards.com/showthread.php?735-Survey-of-Savage-4-serial-number-ranges
It seems that the "U.S. Property" marked rifles are a little unique.
Rufe: I have a Savage 303 that I don't remember it having that "bridge", so I was wondering if I have an incomplete rifle. Thanks for that tidbit of information.0 -
It looks like the Savage No.4. Mk I* that I used to have. In fact the "C" in the serial number would denote that it is a Savage made No.4 Mk I*.[:D]
Added:
What I found, after some research is that is one of the particular changes made from the Mk. I to the Mk. I* is the peep sight replaced the volley sight and the rear bridge was left open.0 -
I have a Savage .303 enfield with the US Property Lend-Lease marking as well, I got it at Big 5 Sporting Goods many moons ago for about 125 bucks.
It also does not have that bridge, and the metal is so evenly patinaed it looks like it never did.0 -
i don't know if my last message got through or not,but here it is again. subject:us property...
if you,"sandwarrior"would go to google, and type in,savage-stevens e.a.l. rifle, and click on E.A.L.No4Mk1*enfield rifles,u willbe sent to guns international,on that page there is a bunch of pic's of the survival rifle,if u click on each pic.,that is what my rifle looks like, except for some minor differences ,also on the side,my rifle says S no4mk1*,and not 303 E.A.L.0
