Armi-Galesi-Brescia-Nrevetta-Cal.22

My father got this gun many years ago. He said it didn't come with a magazine. He found a magazine at some pawn shop in the 70's.

I am trying to confirm if it's the correct mag for this gun.
More specifically, what .22 cal does this gun really take? Is it .22 Short, .22 Long, or .22 LR? I don't think it's LR because I've seen Galesi's with LR stamped on the side and this one doesn't have that.

The reason I ask is because he told me it takes .22 Short but jams every time I use it. The round just doesn't seem to slide up the ramp into the chamber cleanly.

I've read that the XVI is the year stamp but I can't figure out what year this is.

  The proof date on your pistol, dates it to 1960.
  
  Triple K Catalog has a illustration of a identical pistol. It's identified as the "Galesi Model 9", in .22 LR. Their magazine made for it, is number #37.

  For the most part a pistol made for shorts will not allow a LR to fit in the magazine. However with a non original magazine the next thing I would do is remove slide and barrel if the barrel is not part of the frame then see if a long rifle cartridge will chamber in the barrel.

  That particular Galesi is chambered in .22 long- NOT .22 long rifle.
  Now, it will also shoot .22 shorts with the proper magazine, which you seem to have. The guns were sold as .22 short with the short magazine, and as .22 long with the long magazine.
  The .22 LR Galesi used a slightly larger frame.
