Rossi single shot rifles
I saw a clearence on one of the Rossi 22-250 varmint rifles with the heavy barrel with scope included for $186. at Dicks Sporting Goods.
Are these rifles worth the money for some occasional fun shooting varmits?

I found some Rossi single shot rifles for $139 new-in-box. These have the stainless receivers and barrels. I am trying to decide between the .357 Mag and the .44 Mag. Heck, for this price I might buy both. Are these rifles any good? Never heard much about them.

I traded a POS Chiappa 1911/22 for a used Rossi.22LR/.410 combo. I'm delighted w/mine. The .22 barrel is surprisingly accurate. Comes in a handy carry case. Great truck gun. 0 -
One of my customers raved about the Rossi/Braztech single shot rifles' accuracy. I ended up with one in 7.62x39 when I closed my business. The chamber is out of spec and it won't fire with factory(American made) ammo. I haven't made time to ship it back for a fix yet. 0 -
They would not be my first choice. Lots of good used rifles out there if you know what you are looking at. 0 -
Why not look at the H&R Handi Rifles? Same concept but a lot better reputation and a lot more choices.
The older ones, Toppers, Model 158's, Shikaris, etc. won't accept the newer ones barrels so you need to do your research on them first but I would think since you are looking for two young hunters you could start with a basic one for each and then mix and match to your heart's (or wallet) content.
I would look at a 20 gage 30/30 combo if deer or 20 gage/22LR if rodents and such. The beauty is you could start off like that and then for around 75 to a hundred bucks a pop add things like 44 Mag; 270; 223; even up to the 300 Win Mag or 500 S&W if so inclined.

I personally would shy away from the whole bunch of South American made firearms. H&R might be OK, and they are now under Remington's roof in Illion, NY.
I would get each a Marlin, or Savage 22 Bolt action, and a Savage model 10 in 243, or 7mm-08.

I got one of their combo guns in 30/06 and 20 gauge (2 barrels). Off the shelf the firing pin spring was too weak and even after sending it back to the factory, military ammo is a no go. I think that the pin is too weak by design, and is very hard to get to to replace if not in warranty. Also I think the firing pin and hammer have too short a stroke or not enough inertia for the job. The chamber was in spec, but the throat is VERY long.
Now that said... topped with a Nikon Prostaff scope it will shoot about 1.5 MOA, about all I could ask for such a gun.
Am happy with it for what it is but nothing to rave over.0 -
I've got a Trifecta, .17HMR. .270, & .50BP barrels. Won it at a banquet a few yrs ago. Shot the 17 barrel a couple of times. Put a scope on the 270 barrel & killed an elk the last time I shot it. The thing kicks like a mule but did the job. Haven't shot it since. Sets in the back of the gun safe. 0
