Winchester 1873/1866/1894
Just getting into the Antique Winchesters.......Can you tell me which Winchester has the larger body (face plate/action)? Is this based on caliber for each year or the year/model?
Thanks, Patrick

Patrick,
I am not quite sure what information you are seeking?
The Model 1866 was made for the .44 rim fire cartridge only, and had a bronze (gunmetal) receiver frame.
The Model 1873 was initially made for the 44 WCF (a.k.a. 44-40) center fire cartridge. In later years, the 38 WCF and 32 WCF cartridges were added. All three were essentially pistol cartridges. In the early years the receiver frame was more iron than steel, but by 1879, it was steel.
The Model 1894 was specifically made for center fire rifle cartridges. It has a much stronger receiver frame as compared to the Model 1866 and 1873.0 -
