Czech VZ24 Variant
Hi all...I have a VZ24 that I bought some time ago, and I've been trying to figure out exactly what variant it is for almost all of that time. It's standard VZ24 configuration...but it has no crest on the receiver, nor does it have obvious signs of a crest having been removed. There's no date on the receiver...it's literally blank on the top side. The receiver serial number is three digits, and has no letter prefix (the bolt does not match). It does have the usual Brno stamping on the left side of the receiver. There is no E-lion proof. I'm assuming it's one of the many export runs of the VZ24...but does anyone have any idea which?

No markings had hard to pin down. Czechs made them for commercial sale. They would sell them any way the buyer wanted them, i.e. with or without markings. It wouldn't be clear why no chamber markings or proofs, but still having Brno marked receiver. 0 -

The sanitized, (no markings other then serial number), Mausers sold to Egypt were Yugoslavian M48's.
The OP's rifle has the standard BRNO Czech markings on left side of the receiver, wouldn't consider that as a sterile non traceable rifle.0 -
I actually just found an online excerpt from Mauser Military Rifles of the World...it has a table of the known variants of the VZ24 in it. The only one that's even close is the Slovak Republic contract. For those, all known examples apparently have four digit serial numbers with no letter prefix or suffix...so I would guess that the first 999 of those have only a three digit serial number. But theey also supposedly have scrubbed receivers...and that doesn't match up. One of those things I'll never have any way of knowing for sure, I suppose... 0
