RUGER SAA GRIPS
I have a Old Vaquero S/S .44 mag. (not birdshead) and want new grips for it, it is marked on the right side of the frame(under grips)with only XRN-3 but everything I see advertised has "Red" behind the # 3, such as XRN-3 Red, which mine does not have the RED or letter "R". Is this the same or is there a difference ? read all kinds of post/ads on the web but all they seem to contradict themselves badly so I'm at a loss as to what panels I need, also have been toldand read S/S frames are different from blued in size even for the same model ??? does anyone have any suggestions or experience, pointer with Ruger grips ? I'm not looking for high $ custom grips. Thanks for any help.

Maybe this page will help or you can always call Ruger:

Thanks for repling but I've already been there and it too is confusing as to mine not having "red" where all they speak for this model does. 0 -

If you call Ruger and give them your serial number, they'll tell you exactly what you have.

I have an old model vaquero...any grips that fit the New Model Blackhawks will fit your Vaquero(old model vaqueros were just called Vaquero but they are built on NewModel Blackhawk frames. If you just want some nice wood or faux ivory grips at reasonable prices you can't beat Hogues. A company called Lett was a custom grip maker for Ruger for years but they are now out of business. If you come across any of their grips on the auction side or at a gun show snag em up as they were very nice but very pricey. 0 -
Ruger41 is correct, if it has the original Vaquero grip frame that came on it, the XR3-RED grip panels would be correct for your gun.

What your saying is the XR-3 RED will fit even though the frame is stamped XRN-3, this is whats so confusing, everybody and eveything I read says something different. Thanks everyones for your replys [;)] 0 -
