Better Concealed Carry all steel handgun

While I have a variety of plastic handguns, I keep coming back to my Mauser HSc and my Makarov. Normally, my EDC is a Ruger LC9.

Which of the 2 all steel post-WWII handguns do you think is the better CC and why?

    My model 60 S&W. I can hide it in my hands prayer fashion. 5 38 Specials is enough.

    Remington P51 less than one inch wide . Locked breach for very low recoil and natural Pointing. I know not post war but close.

    If it had to be ALL STEEL, and of what your choices are, then it would be the Makarov.

    If it had to be all steel, and something of my choosing, then it would be a S&W 60, as mentioned above, or a Walther PPK.

    Add alloy frames to the fray, then it would be a S&W 3913, or 4013.

    At similar weight and size, I also like the Smith model 60 better than either of the above but that wasn't the question. [;)]

    Of the two models listed, my strong preference would be for the Makarov.

    That one is built tough, reliable, and the 9x18 caliber is quite a bit better than the pipsqueak .32ACP of the Mauser. Its also less of a collectors piece, IMO making it more suitable for a "working" gun.

    Edit: OK, you've clarified that the Mauser is .380 ACP (not .32), and you don't care a whit about possible collectors value.

    Since .380 and 9x18 makarov are functionally similar calibers, I don't think ballistic difference matters here. In terms of ammo availability, that may or may not matter depending on your personal stocks and how much you do (or don't) practice. "Normally" its easier to find .380 ACP than 9mm Makarov in stores, but right now, it wouldn't at all surprise me if the converse were true.

    Anyway, with this new info IMO, I'd call it a tossup. Ultimately the "better" gun is just whichever one you like better. If you like DA, pick the Mauser, and if not pick the Makarov. If you don't care, then just pick whichever one you shoot better or 'feels' better to you.

    Personally, I lean towards DA for carry, but that's subjective, and it also depends a bit on the QUALITY of the DA trigger in question. I've never actually fired one of these Mausers, and I can't comment on that. I'd also take a look at the sights here. I know these pocket pistols are usually considered "no sight point at target" type guns, but I still like to have visible sights on my gun in case I "need" to make an actual shot at distance, and I think on that score the Makarov is probably better.

    Assuming both guns are reliable and function fine, then it doesn't really make a difference which one you choose. Ultimately your proficiency with the gun in question is going to matter more than which one.

    Seems to me you simply don't have enough guns. My go to is a Colt Commander.

    IMHO I would sell all three and buy a Kahr MK9. It's all steel, small and very strong and produces more power than the .32 ACP, .380 or 9X18.

    Your choices are limited. You don't tell us if the HSc is .32 and we know the Mak is.....well, Mak. I have both and really like my little Mauser....Nazi marks and all. Very accurate little guy but the caliber is wanting. But between the two, I would carry my Mauser due to its accuracy over my Chinese/Russian Mak.....but I love both my light Rugers and carry them all the time, plastic or no.

    30 guns is plenty enough for me.

    For example, I have an XDs in 45 ACP, FsN, S&W 340PD in 357, etc. I know I have more POWERFUL handguns and LIGHTER handguns. Something about these two just appeal to me. BTW, in response to another post, the Mauser HSc is 380ACP. I don't consider either of the two "collectables".

    I found out years ago that weight comes into play in a significant way in CC, at least for me, so if it was me, I would stick with the LC9 and never look back...at the .380 and the Mak. But if you like steel, go Colt and go to 31[;)] Just sayin'
