Buying guns in other states
I am currently looking to buy more rifles. I am a resident of upstate NY, working in West Virginia and Ohio and Pennslyvania. Am I able to purchase them in another state without having to have them shipped to an FFL dealer in my home town.

It depends on your state of residence. Some states are OK with it, as far as longguns are concerned.
I was in the sporting goods department of a Walmart awhile back. There was a chart on the wall showing which out of state residents could purchase rifles or shotguns. The only ones that I can remember that couldn't buy longguns out of state were California and Idaho.0 -

The answer to your question, is both yes, and no.
You may, and bring back with you, anythingthat is LEGAL to own in New York. However, anythng that is not legal, like the assault weapons ban stuff, and post ban magazines of high capacity are a no no. Anything that was made prior to the 1994 ban is ok to bring back.

Bill, perhaps you need to discuss this with one of the ATF Industry Inspectors. What the man asked for is perfectly legal for a rifle or shotgun, and is specifically addressed in 18 US Code 922.
It shall be illegal to transfer .....
(3) any firearm to any person who the licensee knows or has
reasonable cause to believe does not reside in (or if the person
is a corporation or other business entity, does not maintain a
place of business in) the State in which the licensee's place of
business is located, except that this paragraph (A) shall not
apply to the sale or delivery of any rifle or shotgun to a
resident of a State other than a State in which the licensee's
place of business is located if the transferee meets in person
with the transferor to accomplish the transfer, and the sale,
delivery, and receipt fully comply with the legal conditions of
sale in both such States0 -

Everyone is correct.
But, to expand on what was said, ATF regulations say that the sale of a long gun to a resident of another state must be made at the dealers place of business, & such transfer must be legal in BOTH states.
Your problem will be that most dealers in other states, upon learning that you are a NYS resident, will decline the sale. They don't know NYS gun laws, & they don't want to have to learn. It's their right to decide not to do business with you.
