Need front sight info
Hello,
I have a .22 cal. High Standard Model HB made around 1949 with a 4" barrel. Some "Nitwit" in the past has filed the front sight down and the gun hits an honest 15" HIGH @ 25 yards with the required .22 long rifle ammo.
It appears the sight has been pressed or sweated into a slot in the barrel, not sure if it can be removed.
Would someone out there have a pistol of this model who could give me a height measurement of an unmolested front sight?
Thanks for any replies!

Are you using standard velocity ammo? A lot of target guns are set up for a 6 o'clock hold on the black. This brownell's list of HS sights. http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/cid=10562/k=/t=P/avs|Manufacturer_1=HIGH STANDARD/Products/Front-Sights 0 -
I have a feeling a "too high" sight may be what is coming for my pistol because an original front sight for it is probably not going to be available. I have a gunsmith friend who is very talented at re-creating obsolete parts. Only thing I will need is a clear photo of the profile of an original sight which I should be able to find on any of the auction sites.
Generally with handguns I use the six o'clock sight picture with the top of the blade even with top of notch.0 -

Gee, I forgot to check Brownells! Thanks for the link. I see the HB model listed.
Iam using standard Remington long rifle in it.0 -
The Front sight is pressed into a woodruff key type slot. These will generally pull out with something like vice grips.
The Sight height should be around .276" top of barrel to top of front sight.0 -
john stimson I thank you very much.
My HB is in really nice condition aside from the PO's sight blunder. It's a fun gun to shoot and I believe it has good accuracy potential. It will be nice to get it back to standard sights.0
