Iver Johnson Chamber Length?

    I would doubt that it was made for 3 inch. IJ were not top shelf, just shoot 2 3/4 and have a gun that eject/extracts.

    A 2 3/4 inch chamber will allow a 3 inch shell to be inserted due to the forcing cone at the rear of the bore or the front of the chamber (your choice of terms). Be safe, just load 2 3/4.

    If you look mat a modern shot-gun shell you will see that the shot is covered with folded over when the shell is fired this unfolds and has to have room to open all the way up to let the shot and wad travel up the barrel if you shoot a 3 inch shell in a 2& 3/4 inch chamber the unfired shell will chamber but then when the shot cover tries to unfold it jams into the barrel that is smaller then the chamber this causes dangerous higher pressure in your shot gun and make shell hard to get out of the chamber PLUS your shot pattern may suck.
