Adjusting double set trigger on CVA Hawkin

I picked up a flintlock CVA Hawkin at a gunshow last weekend--got it pretty cheap as an "as is" as the hammer wouldn't hold when cocked. I took it apart, cleaned it up, though it apparently had never been fired due to the above problem, and when I put it back together it cocked, both halfcock and full, and fired with the front trigger, but the rear set trigger does nothing, except if I push it forward the rifle fires, but I doubt it's supposed to work that way. There are two adjustment screws, one between the triggers and a tiny one just aft the rear. I've fiddled with both screws but with no apparent effect on the set trigger. Help?

  When all else fails, read the instructions. Contact CVA, get a copy of the owners manual.

  I find, no where in the manual, of how to adjust the set trigger. However, I have some esperience with them, or those similar to them.
  
  One of the screws adjusts the pull weight, and I do believe it would be the smaller one between the trigger's. The other will adjust the amount of sear engagement you have. You need to make sure that you have enough sear engaged on both unset trigger, and set trigger. That means you need sear enough to hold the hammer back without pulling the set trigger, and sear enough to hold it back after pulling the set trigger. The front trigger is the ONLY trigger that should let the hammer drop.
  
  Without pulling the set trigger(rear trigger), the front trigger should have a normal 3-5 pound pull. By pulling the set trigger(you pull the set trigger first, to "set" the front trigger), it should give you an extremely light to light(under 1 pound) pull, that has very little creep(sear engagement.

  Thanks for the replies and especially for the owners manual. It didn't provide a lot of information that was all that different from that in the manual for my 45-year-old T/C percussion Hawkin, but it helped some. It didn't say anything about adjusting the set trigger, so I'm still looking for help there. I actually did contact CVA first but was informed that they no longer carried that model or parts or diagrams for it. They provided a link to another site, but it turned out to be the same people and elicited the same reply.

  I haven't fooled with one for a long time but I think you can just pull the trigger guard assembly so you can see the workings. I thought the little screw between the triggers controles the set sear engaugement. I like the set tigger to hold with a good thump on the padded floor with the butt of the rifle.
