What price should I get. W&C Scott & Sons 20 ga.

An appraisal from whatitsworth2U suggested a market value of $3000 and a replacement value of $3500 for the following piece. I have offered it at auction for a total of 4 weeks with no action other than to be viewed. Does this piece have any interest out there? It seems distinctive. 20 gauge seems scarce.
W. & C. Scott & Sons side by side shotgun in 20 gauge with exposed hammers. The barrels are most likely damascus. Barrels are 28 1/4", serial number 26931 (1879/80). Engraved sideplates, nice walnut checkered stock and forend. The stock is missing a small piece of wood at the trigger guard. Quite good condition, retains bluing with a few wear marks from handling. NOT FOR BALL. Piece is stamped with choke gauge of 22. W & C Scott & Sons Makers & Patenters London. Beautifully engraved. Hammers are engraved. W&C Scott engraved in at least 4 places including on the unlock lever.

    If you have had viewers, there is likely a market for it. If you relist your auction with numerous well-lit & focused photos, & your starting bid is $100, I am sure that your gun will sell. It may not sell for what you think it should bring, but the open market is the only way to determine "true value".

    Long story short,,damascus barrels puts it out of use for the vast majority of people, shooters.. Classic piece but not 3k worth,,for a hanger //imo

    I am NOT a shotgun person, but my opinion is that the missing piece of the stock is a big minus for the gun at that price.

    It is a pretty piece, and I would think that a collector would want to get it repaired. It will take a skilled woodworker to patch it correctly and non-visibly - which adds to the final price for the buyer.

    I would also have to pay a good gunsmith to look at the barrels and decide if it is OK to shoot.

    Butt plate looks like it had a rough life and hammer gun with Broken stock picture just behind triggers .With Damascus barrels nice quality gun when new but $500.00 in my opinion[:(]

    I'm thinkin' the same.. Also, wood looks refinished, and the flat, English checkering re-cut.. The locks, at least, appear re-blued since I think color case-hardened was the finish of the day..

    It would be best if you took Neal's sage advice. There are to many things wrong with the shotgun for it to be a big buck item, even if it was made by W & S.

    I'm not familiar with this "Whatitsworth2U" outfit, but IMHO they dropped the ball on their appraisal of your shotgun.

    Even if it was completely factory original and in excellent condition, it's primary value would be to a collector on the other side of the pond in GB not here in the US.

    Think about who would want such a gun.A collector of vintage doubles would reject because of its condition.Its value as a shooter is very little.Who?Who?
    If you really want to sell it go no reserve with a small starting price
    and you'll get a valuable education.

    My suggestion is that you look at other Scott hammer guns to see the differences compared to your gun.

    The parts such as the action and locks were not blued but case colored.
    If the barrels were hot blued that would also be a red flag regarding the solder holding the barrels together. The checkering is not re-cut, it's all new and wrong, that may not even be the original wood.

    I own and shoot a Scott, they made some fine guns, however I believe that yours is beyond help. If you can get a few hundred dollars for the gun take it and run and learn from it.
