45-70
I was thinking of getting the new pistol that shoots 45-70 ammo. has anyone ever shot one of these things and if so, how far did it throw you?[8D][8D]

i have a leinad inc. .45 410 double bbl. handgun. my question is... can i safely shoot the .45-70 ammo. they do chamber but seems to be tight. has this ever been done? i would like to ramp it up some. thanx!!!! 0 -
No. They are not even close in pressures. I think it would dangerous to try it. 0 -
I saw a guy shooting 45-70 from a Thomson Contender pistol once. The recoil was so bad he had a big brass weight fastened underneath the barrel. To keep it from rotating.
You shooting 45-70 in one of the Ducktown pistols. Likely to be quite a unforgettable experience, if you survived. For the first shot to be on the safe side. Duct tape the pistol to a tree, and use a 30 foot lanyard to pull the trigger. With you behind a boulder, for cover.0 -
that gun is ment to fire .410 shot gun shells OR .45 colt it is NOT for 45-70 0 -

The bullets for 45-70 are .458 instead of the .451 of the 45 Colt so they are 0.007 larger.
Even the very mild 45-70 ammo is 18,000 psi vs 13,000 for 45 Colt. The larger bullet going through a smaller bore will make the pressure much higher. Some 45-70 is loaded to much higher pressures than that because it's only for more modern rifles.

Oh you would ramp it up some alright, you would getting pushed up the ramp on a stretcher. 45-70 in that pistol would turn it into a grenade don't do it. Those things are made out of pot metal.0 -
yes, please do it so I have a funny video on youtube to watch of you blowing your face off. it amazes me what people will try to do or want to do. even if the gun did fire 45-70 why would you want to?
if you really have the need to hurt yourself, go buy an AMERICAN DERRINGER " ALASKAN " they can be found for around 4 to 500.00. they were made to fire the 45-70. if you do get one, please post the video of you shooting it, it will be a good one.0 -
No not even remotely safely. It's a very bad idea. Would you run nitromethane in your car? You will likely get the same results in both cases - blown up pieces.
Have you actually shot it with 410 shells? The original TC 45/410 pistol was a hand full with 3" shells. The screw on choke also stopped the rotation which helped yield effective patterns. Plus it was made of real steel and had a reasonable size grip to hang on to during recoil.
410 ammo made for the Judge might do better in short barrels than the regular stuff but even then I'd still be worried about the quality of the pistol holding up as well as the ability to hand on to it during recoil.0 -
You can do ANY THING you want to, but in this case, I would not suggest it. There is a reason they mark the side of the barrel, with the chambering, and that is to know what to put in it.
Basically, if that is a 45 Colt/410, it is long chambered for a 45 Colt, as the bullet is way bigger in diameter than a 410 bore.
While we are on the subject, for anyone who reads this, it is NOT SAFE to shoot 45 Colt, or 44 Magnum ammunition out of a 410 shotgun, unless the barrel is marked so.
