Colt SAA "In the White Finish"?
I'm not familiar with what is called 'in the white' finish. Was this a finish or the lack of a finish? There have been numerous revolvers advertised stating that the finish was in the white.

The term is kind of ambiguous. How the original finish was lost always has to be ascertained. A Colt that was holster carried and well used over 30+ years, could well be in the white and still be quite valuable. On the other hand you might have a Colt that bubba worked over with a belt sander in his garage, it's only value would be for the internal parts that can be cannibalized. 0 -
Back "IN THE DAY" one could order a pistol IN THE WHITE direct from Colt. These were normally furnished to high end NON FACTORY engravers . Much easier to hand cut metal that has Not been case hardened . These guns would then be engraved and heat treated. then some were plated. 0 -
Frames sold in the white were not case hardened so they could be plated or engraved.
I doubt color case hardened frames could be plated.0
