Colt SAA "In the White Finish"?

    The term is kind of ambiguous. How the original finish was lost always has to be ascertained. A Colt that was holster carried and well used over 30+ years, could well be in the white and still be quite valuable. On the other hand you might have a Colt that bubba worked over with a belt sander in his garage, it's only value would be for the internal parts that can be cannibalized.

    Back "IN THE DAY" one could order a pistol IN THE WHITE direct from Colt. These were normally furnished to high end NON FACTORY engravers . Much easier to hand cut metal that has Not been case hardened . These guns would then be engraved and heat treated. then some were plated.

    Frames sold in the white were not case hardened so they could be plated or engraved.
    I doubt color case hardened frames could be plated.
