    I've seen Winchester cannons but never a Colt cannon. Please post pictures as your description is very vague at best.

    I would suggest that you try to get some type of factory letter from the Colt historian to document your piece. Otherwise, your story is simply hearsay. A letter would prove that it in fact was made by Colt and not just stamped "Colt's Patent" by someone else.

    the archive explained to me that being it does not have a serial number they will not send a letter to me . they also said that these pieces wouldn't have a serial number because it is not a "firearm" just a sample . if i could get the letter i would it would make things so much easier

    It says "Colt's Patent" can you tell us the patent number that this refers to?

    Colt didn't put the actual patent number on their products. They were simply stamped "Colt's Patent". The numbers on Colt percussion revolver cylinders are the serial numbers, not the patent numbers.

    I would think someone at Colt could at least give you some kind of written history of it and identify it as a Colt product. You might check with Norm Flayderman as he may know something about it. He's dealt with unusual items for over 60 years and literally "wrote the book".

    They were simply stamped "Colt's Patent". That is true but they ALL refer to a patent at the patent office which can be easily checked.
