I have a 1884 US Springfield trapdoor rifle. It has Fox studio 187 engraved on it. How would I go about to find out the story on this gun.

  Best thing to do would be to post quality photos. This will enable us to identify and value it. From the perspective of it being a U.S. issue military rifle.
  
  As far as the Fox Studios marking? Someone might be able to recognize it, and provide history.
