remington 721 in 264 win and 280 rem

There was a rifle listed earlier this week a 721 in 280 up until about 5 years ago I never knew remington chambered one in said caliber

I recently got a 264 the first one I have ever found it appears as though it could be a blued stainless steel but I see no marking denoting that it is. How can I tell?

Also does anyone know how many were made in each caliber or can point me to any good history? I have all chamberings that were made on 721s except the 280 so just curious. Nothing that is really valuable but its cool

And I talked to remington already and they were no help I know more than them

    If none of our folks can help you? You might give this link to the Remington collectors forum a try. It appears to have substantial data on Model 721's.

    According to my old Blue Book there were 688 in 280 and 1,115 in 264, don't know about the others. The 264 was also made in the 721A Magnum - longer barrel than the 721 and carried a recoil pad.

    About 2 months ago I sent a customers Model 700 ADL in to be blued.
    The barrel was not marked stainless, but it is, and so did not take blueing. That is the first Remington I have encountered with a stainless barrel that wasn't marked.

    The 721 was first chambered in 280 in 1960 and 264 in 1961. The 264 had a stainless steel barrel. Check with a magnet.

    I recommend The Remington 700 by John F. Lacy. It covers the 721 also.

    i bought a rem 721 in 280 in the early 60,s,in a mt. union pa. at a hardware store for 125.00. it had a strait barrel with no rear sight bump. i killed many deer with and sold it to my brother who killed many deer with it also with 52grs imr 4350 and a 154gr hornady bullet, when he died his wife sold it before i could buy it back. a plain jane rifle that got the job done with out frills,and i wish i still had it. eastbank.
