I've got some money coming back in taxes this year(yipee!) and I thought I'd buy a pistol I've always wanted but never could afford, a Luger. I mentioned this around the gun shop and heard lots of advice against it. I need to know from experts, not just some guys who "shot one at a range once". Can I shot hollow points, light loads, anything other than military ball? Is it reliable or liable to hang up? I'm looking for a shooter, by the way, not a collector. Thanks

    There are a bunch of experts on this forum who can help you. However, they are going to need to see clear, in focus, and close up pictures of all the markings.

    lUGERS WERE MADE BY ANUMBER OF PEOPLE. The maker is usually stamped on the top of the toggle The year is usually on top of the Front barrel extension Serial numbers are usually on two places and most small parts have the last 2 digits of the serial number on them Pictures are a must to give more than a WAG on value.

    Howdy Kitty223, and welcome to the forum,

    As Perry Shooter states, the Luger, (or P-08), was manufactured by a number of arms makers, both in and out of Germany. And for many decades. Hence a very wide field to study.

    We realize, (or at least all of us Should Realize), that posting photos is just not possible for everyone. (Amount of "education" or not). So I surely won't waste my breath to ask what has aready been asked threefold times. ho-hum.
    So, if this is the case, there are a number of web-sites that are Luger specific where info can be obtained. And have very clear photos for comparision already on site.

    That said, if you can give us here a description of all the marking visible and where they are located on the pistol, that would be a good start.
