Smith and Wesson .22lr identification help
I have a S&W revolver that is .22lr, blued, and it has no model number markings. The serial number is in the K246850 range. I am looking to find out what model it is, what year it was produced and also what it might be worth. This gun belonged to my father and I just need some info. A friend thinks that it is a pre-model 18 and is a combat masterpiece. Any help with this would be wonderful. Thanks

Barrel length and type of front sights are major indicators in the difference between the K 22 and Combat Masterpiece, which is very likely the revolver your inquiring about.
It would be best to post quality photos. If you can't do that a very specific description of the revolver might suffice.0 -
The serial number indicates it was produced in 1955.
If it has a 4" barrel it is a Combat Masterpiece.
If it has a 6" barrel it is a K-22 Masterpiece.
Value depends on grips and finish being original, whether or not screw heads or other parts are damaged and the amount of original finish remaining.0 -
I do not see how to post a picture here. When I click on insert image, it puts stuff here, but no picture. The gun has a 4in barrell with an adjustable rear sight. The Blue is good with a little bit of freckling on some of the surface. I think a fair amount of that will come clean with the use of a light solvent and a little love followed by a good oiling. I have not done a down and dirty cleaning on it yet. The frame and cylinder have matching numbers. The grips are wood. I can email several pictures to either of you. Thanks for the help. 0 -
