Madsen .30-06 value

I have a Madsen model 47 .30-06 I'm planning to sell for a friend if I don't buy it myself. I'm hoping to get some insight into its value based on condition.

First and foremost, a previous owner engraved his name in the receiver and on the magazine floorplate. If I ever find Bill Epply I'll probably smack him upside his head, but that's not important right now. Also, at some point the stock was refinished while the gun was still fully assembled, so there's finish on the metal parts, and the finish overall looks a bit rough. There are wear marks, little dings and such that I didn't photograph, but you get the idea, it's definitely not a museum piece. So based on the condition, I'm thinking it's worth in the neighborhood of $400-450. Any thoughts?

    Might be worth that much to a/the Bill Epply. Your pic's aren't showing.

    added They are showing now. Rifle doesn't look all that bad.

    added I saw them once as posted when I went back it back to black X but the links work.

    How is the bore, crown and chamber?

    Strange, they're visible to me... They're properly hosted and linked using forum code from what I can see. I'll try adding hyperlinks and see if that helps.

    <edit> Ok, I added hyperlinks under the images and both are working for me. Anyone else not seeing them?

    As far as collectors are concerned Bill Epply's autograph and the refinishing is a kiss of death. Stuff like that turns a collectors item into shooter, in the blink of a eye.

    Haven't owned one or seen one sold in years? Personally I believe your $100 to $150 high, because of bubba Bills handiwork.

    Looks like old Bill was a tall guy with long arms, also. He put a series of spacers under the original butt pad.

    Standard.
    The Danes wanted it to be adaptable to a lot of customers.
    Futile, too much WW II surplus for the cheap, too many autos available from the US or USSR if you got your politics right.

    I had noticed that the butt pad was different, I thought it was just a later variation. I just looked more closely and I see that it's a Pachmayr "White Line"... So it's completely aftermarket.

    I just ran a brush down the bore (it was pretty dirty) and it looks to have a bit of pitting in there. Not much, but a little down towards the muzzle. I'll continue to clean it up and see what I can find.

    I see them at gunshows every now and then for anywhere from $400- 600. That is W/O engraving. Many are in excellent condition.
    Quite a few folks bought these when they came on the surplus market from Colombia. I heard my share of people complain of the recoil of these rifles and wanted to sell for that reason alone.

    I had one in the past that was superb and got top money like this one. Recoil is not an issue at all since they were ported.

    The one in your link has been bubbaed. The stocks on the Madsen's BA rifles made for Columbia were a light colored wood. Might be birch or something. See the picture of the Madsen in my previous post. The bozo who's selling it, or some previous owner stained the stock for some reason. Thats why you really have to watch out for the clowns selling stuff, on the auctions. IMHO, he would be lucky to get half what he's asking, for one with a refinished stock. Being he's BSing about the stock. No telling what else is wrong with it.

    So it sounds like the consensus is more like $300 for this particular rifle would be what I'd expect to get?

    And BTW Rufe, I love the color on the one you posted. Since mine is jacked up anyway, I think I'd refinish it (properly this time) to be lighter like that.
