FAL Differences
Can someone describe the major differences between the DSA FAL SA58 and the stg58.

I see individuals advertising DSA SA58 for sale and then others state stg58. I have seen some post that do not thing the stg58 is a worthwhile weapon. What would be some identification that one could look for to distinguish the difference? I also hear horror stories of FAL kits. Can the serial numbers weed these out? 0 -
Check out the FAL Files website, a great place to learn about the FAL. You want to learn what the Steyr STG58 proofmarks look like. The early STG58's were made in Belgium, so they had Belgian proofs.
The rifles that use an Imbel receiver with a Steyr parts kits are great. Great barrels, mil spec parts. Imbel receivers are forged, they are top quality.
DSA receivers are excellent also, but their parts are not near the quality of mil spec parts.
FAL's are great rifles, metric magazines and parts are not hard to get.0 -

The various kits available work just fine - they are original contract made rifles with destroyed receivers.
Tricky part is the receiver. DSA usually has a good one. You can still get real contract made Imbel receivers. DCI usually are good. Avoid Williams aluminum receivers - they have a tendency to blow up, but they are good for pistol caliber conversion. Century receivers are hit or miss as far as in-spec goes, some work great, others not so much.
If you are patient, for the price of a DSA you can find a real Imbel contract made and imported by Springfield as the SAR-48 or 4800.0
