Colt Python
How can you tell a nickle finish from an ultimate stainless finish? The bluebook lists both and I don't know which one I have. Also how can you tell the year it was made by the serial no.? Does the serial no. give any other info about the gun?

You need to post a BUNCH of closeup infocus pictures to get an idea
Any prefix to the serial #?0 -
I'm thinking 1955 a first year gun. Condition will be everything. Have you looked on the auction side for completed ones. You can get an idea of the pic's need there also.
A 4 digit one to watch.

No prefix on serial#, just 1540 -
Like has been said, for a proper evaluation, close up, in good light, and in sharp focus photographed images are needed. in other words, it is like saying, I have a 1955 FORD, in great shape, what is it worth.
One persons view of great shape, might not meet the standards of the next. There are established standards to go by, but unless there is something to see, we cannot judge.
I get the same garb form lots of folks trying to sell in not so good shape old Winchester's and Colt's..."but it's old"...well yes it is old, but it should still look in really good shape. Age does not affect graded condition.

GET A COLT LETTER +1000
EDIT A Colt Letter Is a Factory letter that you have to pay for But it is on Official Letterhead From Colt History ledgers I dont have the phone number But with a Pistol Like you describe It would greatly add to the value of your pistol . Many people pay for the History Of Colt single actions I have one from a 1874 shipment and another on a model 1911 that was shipped in 1912.It is costly but in my opinion you some times have to spend money to increase the Value of something you have I have about a dozen letters on Colts That I own.0 -

Hello, My friend has a Blue 6" Colt Python. It is in great to excellent shape. It was carried as a duty gun in the 60's by a Policeman in a small town in the Midwest. The serial # is 154, yes that's not a misprint it is "154". I know Colt prices are crazy, but I was just wondering roughly what it is worth.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

A duty gun is probably very worn. A low three-digit Python could easily sell for $5,000 plus if in excellent condition, but a well-worn one will struggle to reach $1,500. Condition and originality will determine value. Detailed pictures are needed. 0
