savage 1903
I inherited what appears to be a savage 1903 rifle. The magazine is missing and the barrel appears to be rusted and plugged so there is little chance it can be restored as a shooter. I took it apart and the internal parts appear servicable so I'm looking at selling it for parts. My question is since the receiver can essentially be split what part of this gun is considered the receiver, the portion attached to the barrel or the portion with the trigger assembly?

I would consider the half with the barrel but that is just wag. Have you soaked/filled the barrel with penetrating oil. Kroil would good, even wd-40.0 -
If it has a serial number then that part is the receiver. 0 -

The part on which the serial number is stamped is the receiver...0 -
I would think that the part that attaches to the stock would be the receiver. I have the same rifle and might be interested in it (through GB protocol of course). 0 -

Wasn't required to have a serial number when it was made. I would also suggest considering that a two piece receiver, in other words both parts are the receiver.
Is there some reason it cannot be fitted with another barrel, or have that barrel relined?0 -

The serial number is stamped in 2 places: the bottom tang behind the trigger guard and on the inside right half of the frame where the magazine fits. It is also stamped into the butt stock and buttplate.0
