H&R Sportsman question
In the market for an H&R Sportsman, 9 shot, .22LR
I'm confused about the specific caliber as some appear to me marked ".22LR" and others are marked ".22". Virtually all the talk'n seems to always refer to them as .22LR, but I really don't want to end up buying a .22 (is it an S, or an L, or an LR?).
I apologize if this seems a dumb question.

If its a 22LR, it might also accept .22 Long and .22 Shorts. 0 -
Thanks FrankF, but my real concern is that it will take the LR's. Got lot's of these bullets, don't have a single solitary box of Longs or Shorts from my childhood days about 50 years ago.
I want it to be chambered for .22LR, but not all 999's appear to be marked as such.0 -

I have one that was passed down to me from my Dad. In really great shape and shoots .22LR, Long, and shorts, no problem. They are pretty cool pistols. Good luck! 0 -
Revolvers chambered in .22 LR will also shoot the longs and shorts since the action is powered by your trigger finger. .22 Cal Semi autos usually require Long Rifle ammo since it has a stronger recoil impulse to function.
I bought my H&R Sportsman back in the 70's. It shoots all 3 .22 shells with no problem. All the model 999 Sportsman guns I have ever seen will shoot all 3 sizes of .22 shells. Your question is not a dumb one, so get the gun and have fun with it. It will use LR ammo with no problem.0 -
If you get, be sure to keep it clean. Especially the cylinder mech required frequent DISASSEMBLED cleaning. Several parts involved in Cylinder mech (as opposed to just cylinder on most revolvers) that can get gummed up fairly quickly. Causing poor indexing and possible out of time problems. 0
