Which Krag is This??
The SN is 479XXX which is higher than US Model 1898 rifles should have. All work was done very neatly, to include woodwork under the front band. The discription dovetails with what I have read of W. Kirk Stokes, Short Rifles. The standard bayonet will not quite slide over the muzzle. The front sight band and blade is not off a US M1903 Rifle and is secured with a machine screw at the bottom. I bought the rifle with a Kerr no buckle sling dated 1914. The receiver has been fitted with a Redfield peep sight. Has correct cleaning rod and metal oiler bottle in the butt trap. Can send photos. What have I got? Value?

Flayderman's Guide, gives the serial number range for Model 1898 Krag rifles from 11000 to 480000.
Need photos as the previous poster noted. Even with that said, with the Redfield peep it's just going to be a sporterized Krag that somebody put together years ago.
Shame on that, as if it was original, it would have been worth big bucks to a military rifle collector. As one of the last Krags made at Springfield Armory.0 -
My Krag has the peep sight but it is easy to change back. All they did was remove the cut off switch. If I had the switch it would be easy to change back. What I can't change is the holes they drilled for a side mounted telescopic sight.
Rather than being angry about it I am grateful since I would have had to pay MUCH more for one that had not been altered.0
