would really like to know the approx. date of manufacture of the mod 14 in 35rem cal. that I purchased to day . I cannot find any markings that resemble the date code stamp usually found on Remington firearms

  You need the barrel code, K-U is 1927 according to the chart below.
  The months are the far left column.

  Using barrel codes (such as those listed above) to date the manufacture are reliable on

  It was made before 1921, when the code went on the barrel.

  Upon closer inspection I found a faint date code at almost the bottom of the barrel-- " K U " I don't have a list of date codes that go back that far.
