Obama gun panic #2 has made pretty much ALL .22 scarce to unavailable, and its more so of specialty rounds like the CCI stingers. .22 ammo happens to be by FAR the most popular ammo type out there, so of course demand for it is highest.

For what its worth, several other manufacturers offer their own high velocity rounds comparable to Stingers (ie Aguila, etc), though you're probably not going to find any of those on the shelves either!

If your husband can wait about six months, supplies will probably open up again, and he'll likely be able to find some decent .22 ammo on the shelves.

If he "must" have .22 Stingers right now (or else), there is plenty of it available for sale on the GunBroker.com auction site right here. Going price appears to be about $150 per 500-round brick, which works out to about $0.30 per round.

IMO, that's "crazy" level prices for .22 ammo, even specialty .22, but its about supply and demand, and that's what the market can bear right now.

So next time your husband wants to hoard ammo. . .cut him some slack. . .he's just trying to save money! [;)][;)][:p]

Edit: By the way, I don't think your question is inappropriate for this forum at all, and just the opposite.

It been going on since early January, at least. It's the second coming of the Obama gun and ammo panic. A lot of folks are in a extreme panic mode. Frightened that Feinseine and Bloomberg are going to send in the JBT's, to confiscate all their goodies.

500 round bricks of cheap promotional 22 ammo that use to sell for $20, are now bringing in between $50 & $100. My understanding is that .22 ammo is backordered for the rest of the year, because of this.

An option for you is the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP). A case of high velocity 22's will run you a little over $0.08/round. Standard velocity will run a couple cents less. The CMP is claiming 6-12 month wait, but I hear orders are shipping out in about half that time. While it sounds like 5000 rounds of 22 is a lot for turtles & such, you can rest assured you'll be glad you have them when the next big panic strikes! Good luck finding what you need.

Last time I looked at the CMP site earlier this month, they stated Aquilar is not shipping anything to them until October.

Thanks folks !! Figured something like that but didn`t realize that something like a 22 cal. would be as scarce as 9mm and others !! We are on a farm in Texas and those bullets are the most common used here !! We have enough for a while so guess we will just wait it out !! As always,, I appreciate the info !! Will check on the other brands you mentioned !! And,, I never mind if hubby buys a "few" additional boxes of shells !! We try to stay well stocked,, just got caught late on the Stingers !!

There are several other auctions on the auction side. Just don't look for the prices that you are used to.

I have several thousand rounds of Stingers I paid $26 per 1000 for years ago. Never thought it would be going for $240 per 1000.

The CCI Stingers are nice, when available the Aguila Hyper Velocity's are a better value, they fly around 1750 fps.

To be honest, if you need the screaming velocity for rimfire, you may want to consider buying a gun in 22wmr or 17hmr. Both of these calibers are available in all of my LGS - wally world, not so much.

That said, sticking to 22lr, you gotta check a few places and make some bookmarks and then check regularly. I managed to get 1k of practice target ammo from Grafs last week for just over $90, and it is already shipped and will be delivered Wednesday.
