Newbie needs help on auctions
I recently created three auctions on GunBroker(each 3 days), one each for new, boxed 5.56, .40S&W, and .45 ACP ammunition. I priced them at below what I'm seeing them sell for, but got no bids. Though I've sold on eBay for 15 years and have more than 2000 feedback, I'm a newbie on GunBroker with NO feedback. Is my lack of feedback the main progblem? Here's a link to one of my auctions. First i would run them more than 3 days, gives buyers more time to view your sale. The second is your call, restrictions to entire states and not just the cities that prohibit purchase will hinder your sale, I live north of chicago and have bought ammo on here several times without issue. 0 -
I doubt the NR is holding back bidders. The adult signature required is a turn off for many buyers, not many people can/will wait for a truck to pull up to their home.
And with out knowing the shipping price before hand many will not bid. JMHO0 -
Run Auction for either one week or 10 days .let auction end on sunday afternoon or later. Shipping cost should be a fixed amount that is stated in your ad.I started with term ACTUAL COST but many people have been cheated on this type of shipping. do not expect bids from 80% of buyers with ACTUAL COST as your shipping statement... Then start lower price if no bids everyone is scared to be first .if low priced then you will get bids and then more bids until it reaches TRUE MARKET VALUE 0 -

I agree. None of those states listed - or any states for that matter - prohibit the possession of firearms.0 -
Many thanks for the responses from k.stanonik, babum, perry shooter, spider7115, and those who might respond after I post this. Your help is very much appreciated, and I will incorporate your suggestions into my next auction. As this was my first attempt at selling restricted goods, I tried to limit my liability with my own auction restrictions, ill-advised and inaccurate as they were. I understand now that there is no way I can be familiar with ALL state, federal, and local restrictions, and that it is the responsibility of the buyer to know his/her state and local restrictions as they relate to purchasing ammunition and firearms.
I notice that many require a copy of the purchaser's drivers license or other state-issued ID. Is this a reasonable request?0 -
YES a copy of the buyers DL gives YOU proof that the sale went to a person over 18 years old.[:D] 0 -
A DL copy is reasonable. You want to make all attempts to prevent sale to underage buyers.
But, if I needed .223, I wouldn't bother with buying only 60 rds. Especially with the high cost of shipping. You DO know how to legally ship ammo, don't you?

EDIT: UPS & FedEx ground are your only options. Package must have blue ORM-D Small Arms Ammunition sticker on it (DOT regs). I don't use UPS, but believe they require you to ship from a hub. FedEx requires a scheduled pickup from you. Both carriers charge a haz mat fee, around $10. Last year a partial box of .38's cost me $15. So, if the delivered cost of your .223 works out to $.80/rd......that would discourage some folks.0 -

I've researched shipping methods, and it looks like UPS is my best bet. My plan is to package the ammo, take it to UPS, and get the rest of the details there. However, I'd gladly welcome any tips!0 -
there is no hazmat fee for ammo under 66 lbs IIRC 0
