Taurus PT1911 9mm - nicks on ejected brass

I notice that all the ejected brass has a distinctive nick on the rim - about 1/8" long, along the edge. tangential not radial. Presumably this happens during the extraction/ejection process. Anyone seen something similar?

    More then likely it is caused by the ejector when the slide is recoiling back. The ejector hits the rim and causes the brass to rotate to the right and outwards.

    Check the face of the ejector for sharp edges. If there are any? Very carefully stone them into a radius. You might also try a stronger recoil spring to lessen slide velocity.

    Thanks. It's got to be something to do with the ejector. It's also fairly new so may not have been broken in yet. I'll wait until a couple more hundred rounds have gone through it before attempting any gunsmithing.

    On my PT1911 9mm found my ejector to be poorly made in comparison to my other 1911s. A little tlc on it has it now working properly. I was having the opposite effect as you, as the cases were getting thrown directly back and into my face.

    Rufe-Snow has pointed out the cause to your perceived problem. Breaking the pistol in with thousands of rounds will not FIX the small perceived problem. The nose of the ejector must be stoned to break the sharp edges If you don't want the meaningless Nick in the cases.

    All you need to do is break the inside edge. A lite chamfer will do it [;)] My PT 1911 in 38sup needed it done.
