Marlin Glenfield .22???
I am looking for a .22 single shot rifle that a friend use to have and it was stolen and now he wants another for his kids. I think it was a Marlin Glenfield .22. It had a squirrel on the stock. The only one's i find are model 60's and automatics. he swears this was a single shot. Can anyone tell me what i am looking for? The squirrel was on the grip portion of the stock.

This might be the one you're thinking of. They have been around for years. Don't recall the Chipmunk being on the stock though?

My first firearm was a Glenfield Model 20 given to me for Christmas in 1975. Not a sinle shot, but a bolt action .22 with a detachable magazine. It does have the squirrel on the grip however. Here is one currently listed on GunBroker:

I picked up a Glenfield Model 10 at an auction last year. Pretty neat little single shot bolt action. Marked Cal .22 S.L,LR. This one has a very plain stock, no critter.

I have a Marlin Glenfield model 60 that has the embossed squirrel on the stock, came from K-Mart in 1978. It's the same as the Marlin 60 though, tube fed semi-auto. I've never seen a single action Glenfield with a squirrel, could have been though, Glenfield was Marlins basic model found in the big box stores, typically with beech stocks and no frills.
Also possible is that your friends single shot had been restocked using a Glenfield M60 stock with the squirrel, I'm not sure about the interchangeability of Marlins stocks.

I've got a "Squirrel stock" Glenfield (Marlin) Model 60. Its super accurate, and hold more shots than the current manufacture ones. (And I have to admit, I secretly like the embossed squirrel, even though I've never shot a squirrel with this, and probably never will).
No, its not a single shot, but hey, that's a pretty easy conversion if you want to do it. . .just take out the magazine! [:p]
To answer the question, there were several models Marlin that had squirrel stocks of some kind or another over the years:
Marlin 99. . .this is the precursor to the model 60, and some of these have a nice carved in squirrel in a round circle on the stock.
Glenfield/Marlin 60. . .has a cheapo pressed in squirrel
Glenfield/Marlin 70. . .clip fed version of model 60, same squirrel.
Marlin 39 adl/ anniversary. Lever action with carved squirrel.
Marlin 20. . .clip fed bolt action with pressed squirrel.
Marlin 10, that's your single shot with the squirrel.

The Model 10 is great little gun. The 1st gun I bought when I turned 21 (legally able to buy guns) was a model 10. Loved it, but as a gun hungry youngster, eventually yearned for something else and traded it off. Recently ran across this one at a flea market for $125. Previous owner had sanded the finish and left it unfinished. I put a few coats Tru-oil on it. 0
